First funding Award from Northumbria Police

Radio Northumberland has taken delivery of equipment purchased by Northumbria Police.

Radio Northumberland Station Manager, Stewart Allen (left), said "We are very grateful to Northumbria Police for what is the very first external funding we have had since we started in January 2012. Radio Northumberland will be using the equipment to produce even more quality programmes from our studios in West Sleekburn."

Radio Northumberland Head of Sport, Jonny Hall (right) told us "Radio Northumberland will be live from our local football clubs in the season ahead - this begins with the FA Cup Tie between Bedlington Terriers and Morpeth Town on Saturday 11th August."

Sports Producer, Stuart Dick (centre) will also be using the commentary equipment for exclusive coverage of every Home Game at Newcastle United Womens Football Club on www.radionorthumberland.com. He said "After the success of NUWFC last season, we can't wait for the first home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers WFC".

Radio Northumberland is online at www.radionorthumberland.com with Local News, Information, You Tell Northumberland and a wide range of locally produced programming 24 hours every day.

Radio Northumberland Launches

A NEW community radio station in Northumberland has taken to the airwaves without fuss, fanfare or celebrity endorsement.

Radio Northumberland is currently providing an internet-based service for listeners, broadcasting music, community information and talk-based programmes.

As the station grows, the volunteers who run it plan to apply to Ofcom for a temporary licence enabling it to broadcast on an FM radio frequency to households in Ashington, Bedlington, Blyth, Cramlington and Morpeth.

They have spent the last six months quietly planning programming, community involvement and scheduling, with a view to heavily involving local people in the venture.

Station controller Stewart Allen, from Bedlington, is a veteran of more than 25 years at Radio Tyneside and brings a wealth of broadcasting knowledge with him.

He said: “Radio Northumberland has already forged links with a number of schools and community organisations in south east Northumberland. There has been a tremendous amount of work undertaken in the background by our volunteers, and I’m delighted to at last be able to tell everyone about our plans.”

The station broadcasts a variety of music styles and genres, with shows hosted by experienced presenters and interviewers.
